Frequently Asked Questions

What is Integrative Wellness Coaching?

Integrative wellness coaching is about working with the whole you.  Your current state of wellness is influenced by many aspects of your life and each area is ultimately connected. We will engage in conversations that consider all pillars of your health and wellness, beyond movement and nutrition. This may include: current sleep habits, stress management, personal and professional environments, relationships, mindfulness,  spirituality or other influential components of your life.

I just want someone to tell me what to do! That’s how it works, right?

We generally think of a coach as someone who figures out a plan and tells us what to do.  Integrative wellness coaching takes a completely different approach.  Health and wellness coaches serve as your partner with the understanding that YOU are the expert when it comes to your health and wellness.  We are all unique beings and our paths to wellness will look very different.  Health coaches are not there to tell you which path to take, but are there to guide you along the best path for you, every step of the way.

Could I benefit from Health Coaching?

We typically know what needs to change, but knowing how to do it is challenging.  We’ve been given the information, yet we still struggle to change. Health coaches bridge the gap between knowing and doing.  They serve as your ally, your advocate, your support system.  Behavioral change stems from a well designed process, and having a partner to navigate that process can make all the difference.   Optimal health is a continuum that involves multiple aspects of wellness. Wellness coaching has the potential to benefit everyone.

What should I expect from my coaching sessions?

Coaching sessions will engage in open, honest, non-judgmental conversations that are held under strict confidentiality.  We will spend time exploring what’s important to you and develop realistic action steps that meet your overall health goals.  I will serve as your support system and accountability partner throughout the coaching process.

What is a typical coaching time frame?

Three to six months is an ideal time frame to see significant progress toward your health and wellness goals. Sessions occur every week, or bi-weekly, depending on your preference. Weekly sessions are recommended as they tend to produce the most consistent results. Sessions generally last around one hour.  Micro-coaching is also an option which can be viewed as a one time power coaching session.

How will we meet, in person or virtually?

Depending on your personal preference, coaching sessions can take place in person or virtually.

Does insurance cover Integrative Health Coaching

Not yet. Studies have consistently demonstrated the benefits of integrative health coaching. This has lead to the development of health coaching codes which are currently in an investigative phase of coding with the American Medical Association (AMA). This is a big step in becoming a billable code in the future.

Can I use my HSA or FSA account for payment?

Maybe. Health coaching is a qualified medical expense with some plans. Check with your HSA/FSA account manager to determine if coaching is a covered expense with your plan. If necessary, you may also need to determine what documents are needed for eligibility.

Can I afford Heath Coaching?

When you invest in health coaching, you are investing in yourself! The upfront cost you spend on your well-being today will lead to significant financial savings throughout your lifetime.

Developing healthy habits early on fosters confidence and self-dependence. Stress management is an area frequently navigated among adolescents.
